DANUBERES Project

The main challenge of this research proposal was the reconstruction of the complex relations between climate, fluviatile system and the sedimentary transfer in the coast zone and the comparison between the past situation ( characteristic to late Holocene) and the present one, forecasting the future behavior of the deltaic and adjacent coast system. The comparative analysis of its past and present functionality is relevant for the consequences estimation of the human intervening on the behavior of the primary components. The research pointed out the consequences of the barrages construction on the Danube on the solid flow rate. It was estimated the sedimentation rates in the artificial barrier basins of the lakes through: (i) the comparison of the present and past bathymetric elevations, (ii) the presentation of the lake stratigraphy through subbottom profiler and (iii) core-sample and dating of the facieses. The obtained sedimentation rates were correlated with the evolution rates of the coast line and adjacent under water sector. The data referring to the extreme hydrological events and their consequences on the past complex functionality of the delta were obtained through the stratigraphy investigation of the inner delta (fluvial delta) and adjacent non - deltaic areas. The estimation of the present risk to floods arised from the reconstruction of the climatic, hydrological, morphlogical and sedimentary characteristics obtained by complex analyses (dating, correlation, integration, interpretation) and, also from the present climatic, hydrological and morphological data. All this information helped to the estimation of the Danube sedimentary transfer in the coast zone and the quantification of this infusion in the present coast mophodynamics. On the other hand, these data helped the understanding of adjustment mechanisms of the coast and fluvial system and they have use in the national strategy of the territorial improvement politics bootstrapping, the preservation of the natural resources and their sustainable development. citeste mai multe aici

HERA Project

The project aims to identify the states historically connected and expressed in the form of the urban phenomenon in order to ensure a fast analysis instrument and for the spatial visualization of the environmental vulnerabilities in the Bucharest Municipality, from the perspective of the seismic risk as a multihazard generator. From the dynamic point of view the urban form is a concretization in time and space of the urban phenomenon as a system: spatial forms, territorial organization and urban life forms (psycho-social, economic etc.). The shape of the city is the result of the specific state of every historical era. The present urban existences (urban states) are concretizations of some urban structures and represent local manifestations of the urban situation. From the (structural-) functional point of view the city is based on an urban activity (for example habitation) connected to a certain way of using the territory (for example residential). The human purpose precedes the urban activity, evolving during the existence of the city towards an aggregate of urban forces. The urban forces ? economic, social, political, and esthetic ? lead to the determination of the space through decision/action. The human purpose is the initial impulse, but the activity dimensions the urban space.

The final product will be not only a complete data base at the level of the urban environment parameters, but will also offer a variety of analysis procedures validated statistically and ecologically in order to identify the hazard and vulnerability situations in different scenarios of seismic risk, accessible for the local authorities in an attractive web interface that is easy to use and implement in the practice of the emergency situations management and the sustainable territorial planning. At the same time, in order to reduce the vulnerability and also increase the safety of the urban environment, the educational system must function in parallel with the physical system for implementing mitigation measures. In this context, in a so-called second phase of the strategic implementation of the reduction programs of risk, passing from the pilot or demonstrative projects to the routine ones becomes a priority in applying the measures. In order to support the strategy of reducing the seismic risk in Bucharest, the project aims to structure and diversify the information/warning message for the population through different types of contextually adapted messages, based on the identification of the psychosocial state and pattern indexes in the process of adaptation (coping) to the seismic risk, and also through the creation/testing of predictive and behavioral models, fact that will lead to the improvement of intervention in crisis situations, but also in the preparatory (pre-disaster) and resilience (post-disaster) stages.
